The Flat Is Back at HQ

Rory JiwaniA fine day's action in store awaits at Newmarket as the British flat season gets into full swing with seeing good support for Regal Realm in the Nell Gwyn Stakes. The firm's Rory Jiwani says, "We had Sir Michael Stoute's Russelliana and John Gosden's Starscope as our 9/2 joint-favourites yesterday but we can't give them away at present with both out to 11/2. The pair are 20/1 and 25/1 respectively for the 1000 Guineas.

"Regal Realm looked a promising type before disappointing in her final two runs of last season for Jeremy Noseda but she's been all the rage today. The Cheveley Stud filly has been backed in from 15/2 to 4/1. Next in the betting today is Pimpernel for Mohammed Al Zarooni and Godolphin. She is 9/2 from 5/1 with stablemate Minidress a 10/1 shot.

"In the lucrative Tattersalls sprint at 3.00, there's been support for another Noseda inmate with Valbchek supported in from 4/1 to 11/4 favouritism. His one run saw him justify odds-on favouritism on the all-weather at Lingfield last month but this is a big step up in class with 10/3 shot Samitar second in a Group 1 last term.”

"There are a couple of colts with Derby entries in the Feilden Stakes at 4.45 with Charlie Hills' Perennial attracting the money. The half-brother to 2009 Feilden winner Redwood is 6/4 from 15/8 and he is a 33/1 shot for Epsom. John Gosden's Jungle Beat is weak at 11/4 and he is also 33/1 for the Derby.”

"On the antepost front, we've seen plenty of backing for Maybe for the 1000 Guineas with Aidan O'Brien's filly now 9/4 from 3/1. Godolphin's Discourse is second favourite at 7/1 with trainer Mohammed Al Zarooni saying he was pleased with her racecourse gallop at HQ this morning.”

"Tomorrow should yield more Classic clues with Brian Meehan's Most Improved set to go off a short-priced favourite in the Craven Stakes. The Dewhurst third has been very well backed over the last few weeks and is 7/2 for the 2000 Guineas behind 5/2 market leader Camelot. Top Offer goes in the Greenham at Newbury on Saturday with Roger Charlton's colt 5/1 for the first Classic of the season just two weeks later."
