Vettel retains F1 title belief

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel (4/1 in the outright betting) insists that he is not out of Formula One's title race despite finishing in a lowly 15th place in Sunday's Belgium Grand Prix.

The 23-year-old, who had started from fourth on the grid, was given a drive-through penalty for crashing into Jenson Button (25/1) forcing the McLaren driver to retire, before suffering a puncture in an incident involving Force India's Vitantonio Liuzzi to finish outside the points.

Lewis Hamilton believes McLaren are making steps in the right direction after finishing ahead of the Red Bull duo Mark Webber (12/5 Drivers' Championship outright) and Sebastian Vettel (9/5) in Friday's practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso set the pace in both sessions at Spa, showing his adaptability as he clocked the fast time in a wet morning session and a dry afternoon outing.

Alonso, who is just 20 points of current championship leader Webber, managed a time of two minutes 0.797 seconds in the first session, followed by a 1:49.032 in the second.

Valentino Rossi says the time has come for new challenges after manufactures Ducati announced the signing of 'The Doctor' (33/1 outright MotoGP winner) for next season.

The Italian has spent six years with Yamaha, in which time he has won four MotoGP world titles since leaving Honda in 2004.

However he has now decided to move on to Ducati, signing a two year contract.

Vettel was the fastest round the course in both the morning an afternoon sessions with Webber close behind.

The German went round in one minute 20.087 seconds nearly half a second faster than Ferrari's Fernando Alonso - who finished third fastest in practice.

McLaren (6/5 to win the constructors' championship) struggled to keep up with the pace of their rivals and Lewis Hamilton believes that the team fell behind in practice.

Alonso picked up 25 points after heading a Ferrari one-two at Hockenheim but he was aided to the win by team-mate Felipe Massa, who slowed down to allow Alonso to go past him on lap 49. Prior to the race, Massa had trailed Alonso by 31 points in the Drivers standings and the Brazilian led the way for most of the opening 48 laps.

Valentino Rossi made an astonishing comeback on his return to action as he narrowly missed out on a podium position in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring (Rossi 12/1 to win MotoGP 2010 Outright).

A fourth-placed finish completed a remarkable weekend for the 31-year-old, who returned to action only six weeks after suffering a compound fracture of his right shin in an accident in the practice session for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.

Rossi had initially dropped back to seventh at the start but powerful and accomplished driving saw the Italian move up to sixth and then pass Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso to claim fourth.

Valentino Rossi has been cleared to race (8/1 to win) in Sunday's MotoGP in Germany, just six weeks after breaking his leg although his hopes of winning a tenth World Championship look slim.

The 31-year-old himself is in a caution mood ahead of his remarkable comeback this weekend on his Fiat Yamaha given the severity of the accident only 41 days ago.

The 31-year-old needed two operations to pin the bone back together after suffering a compound fracture to his right leg and is still unable to walk without the aid of crutches.
