Marquez swerves Khan to take on 'The Great'

Malignaggi and Khan

Despite the best efforts of Amir Khan to arrange a showdown with Juan Manuel Marquez, the Mexican legend has instead opted to take on Australian star Michael Katsidis in November (check out the latest boxing markets on stanjames.com).

It perhaps comes as little surprise to see the veteran Mexican opt to stick at the 135-pound mark rather than make the step up to junior welterweight to take on Khan.

Klitschko confirms Briggs date

Vitali Klitschko

Vitali Klitschko will take on American Shannon Briggs on October 18 as he bids to defend his WBC heavyweight title for the seventh time (check out stanjames.com for the latest boxing markets).

The older Klitschko brother is expected to easily see off the 38-year-old New Yorker, who British fight fans may remember from his 1998 showdown with Lennox Lewis, in which he was stopped in the fifth round.

However, Klitschko believes Briggs will provide a tough challenge when the pair meet in Hamburg, but the Ukrainian is confident he can retain his title.

Khan not ruling out Hitman showdown

Amir Khan

Amir Khan has stated he would be willing to take on Ricky Hatton in his next bout, although Juan Manuel Marquez remains his top target (keep an eye on stanjames.com for odds on Khan's next bout).

Khan has already admitted he sees a fight with Marquez as an ideal way to build a bigger fan base in the US, with the number three pound-for-pound fighter a massive draw for fans on both sides of the Atlantic.

However, Marquez is keen to test himself against Manny Pacquaio for a third time, having lost once and drawn once with the Filipino sensation, while Michael Katsidis is also eager to face Marquez as the mandatory challenger to the Mexican's WBO title.

Khan explains Maidana swerve

Amir KhanAmir Khan has explained why he has chosen to pursue a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez rather than take on mandatory challenger Marcos Maidana (check out the up-coming bouts on stanjames.com).

After his eleventh round victory over Paulie Malignaggi, Khan stated he would be keen to fight the Argentine, but the Bolton boxer is now eager to take on veteran Mexican Marquez.

Many have suggested Khan is dodging Maidana, but the Olympic Silver medallist revealed he would be willing to take on Maidana at some point in the future but is trying to coax Marquez into the ring for "business" reasons.

Katsidis fires warning to Amir Khan

Michael KatsidisMichael Katsidis has told Amir Khan to forget about a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez as the Australian hopes to take on the Mexican himself (check out stanjames.com for the latest boxing markets).

Both Katsidis and Khan were in Las Vegas as Marquez saw off the challenge of Juan Diaz to retain his WBO lightweight title and as the mandatory challenger, Katsidis feels he has the right to take on Marquez, and not Khan.

The WBO have now ordered Marquez to fight Katsidis in his next bout, and although Khan still stands a chance of taking on the veteran Mexican, Katsidis is adamant he will be the one who gets to fight Marquez.

Khan plans Marquez knockout

Amir KhanIt is not yet certain that Amir Khan will even get the chance to take on Juan Manuel Marquez but the Bolton boxer remains confident he would win if the two came together (Boxing fans might want to check out the markets for the up-coming Magnificent Seven on September 18, with Matthew Macklin's showdown with Darren Barker one of the standout contests).

Khan still keen on Marquez showdown

Amir Khan

Amir Khan has called on promoters Golden Boy Promotions to set up a showdown with Juan Manuel Marquez (keep an eye on stanjames.com for the latest boxing markets).

Khan had earlier claimed an agreement was in place for him to fight the winner of the July 31 bout between Marquez and Houston native Juan Diaz.

However, after his decision victory Marquez stated he was keen to take on Manny Pacquiao for a third time, having narrowly lost once and drawn once with the world's best pound-for-pound fighter, and gave no mention of Khan.

Khan blow as Marquez targets Pac Man

Amir KhanAmir Khan had his sights set on the winner of last night's showdown between Juan Diaz and Juan Manuel Marquez but the Bolton boxer may now be forced to look elsewhere for his next opponent (keep an eye on stanjames.com for odds on Khan's next bout).

Marquez, the 2/7 favourite ahead of the bout, dominated Diaz throughout in a tactical contest to retain his WBA light welterweight title and the veteran Mexican has now set his sights on a third battle with Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao.

"The trilogy is what I want. It's what the people want," Marquez said. "I will be ready for another fight in December, hopefully Pacquiao."

Haye big fight looks unlikely

David Haye

The chances of David Haye (11/1 - 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year) fighting one of the Klitschko brothers before the end of 2010 now seem slim, after both Ukrainian fighters agreed fights with other opponents.

Haye's team were in negotiations with Vitali Klitschko last year, but those discussions failed to reach a conclusion and the British ace instead fought Nikolay Valuev.

After plenty of talk from the three parties, it now looks like Boxing fans will be forced to wait even longer to see Haye in the ring with one of the Klitschkos.
