Horse racing betting comes alive in the north of England on Wednesday when the York Ebor Festival gets underway at York racecourse. The four-day York Ebor Festival features several top-class betting races, including Juddmonte International, the Nunthrope Stakes, the Ebor and the Great Voltigeur Stakes. The York Ebor Festival event is world famous and attracts the best jockeys, horses and trainers in the world.
On day one all eyes will be on the world's number one racehorse, Frankel, who steps up in trip to race in the Juddmonte International . Frankel has been rated as the best-ever racehorse by many good judges, and will be bidding for his thirteenth consecutive win at York. Unsurprisingly, Frankel is a long odds-on shot to win the Juddmonte International and he should win this race hands (or hooves) down.
Frankel is owned by Khalid Abdullah, the owner of Juddmonte, who also won this race last year with Twice Over. Twice Over is 16/1 to repeat his Juddmonte International success again in 2012.
Also held on the opening day of the York Ebor Festival is the Great Voltigeur Stakes, which is a Group Two race and is a traditional trial for next month's St Leger. The Great Voltigeur Stakes has had many top-class winners over the years, with the most recent winner to go on and win the St Leger being Rule of Law in 2004.
Only six are due to line-up for this year's Great Voltigeur Stakes. Favourite for this year's event is Main Sequence, who was runner-up in the Derby in June. Also in the mix is Frankel's half-brother Noble Mission who can be backed at odds of 9/2 at the time of writing.
The Nunthorpe Stakes takes place on Friday of the York Ebor Festival. The winner of this 5f dash will earn an automatic invitation to compete in the Breeder's Cup Turf Sprint run in November. Bated Breath currently heads the ante-post Nunthorpe betting at 9/2 at the time of writing and will go in search of an elusive first victory at such a level. Bated Breath is closely followed by Australian mare Ortensia who can be backed at 5/1. Her recent success at Glorious Goodwood showed she is well and truly back to her best.
Motivado is the favourite in the Ebor Handicap betting on the final day of the York Ebor Festival. He booked his place in Saturday's race after victory on the final day at Glorious Goodwood, where he won a competitive handicap by a commanding five lengths. Motivado is trained by handicap maestro Sir Mark Prescott, who has won the Ebor Handicap once before way back in 1994 with Hasten To Add. A couple of other horses prominent in the Ebor betting are Hammerfest, who can be backed at 8/1, and the 10/1 chance Simenon.
