Sir Henry Cecil has spoken out in favour of a potential clash between Derby winner Camelot (11/4 To Beat Frankel In Juddmonte Match Bet) and his own Superstar colt Frankel. The Newmarket trainer feels the best race for the two horses to meet in is the Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August.
The Juddmonte is run over 1m2f, the distance to which Frankel (1/4 To Win The Queen Anne Stakes) is set to be stretched later in the season, whereas for Camelot it would be a step down from the 1m4f he ran in some style when winning the Derby last weekend. Speaking to At The Races, Cecil said: "If he (Frankel) comes through these next two races all right (the Queen Anne and the Sussex), the Juddmonte would be more interesting. He'll be going another two and a half furlongs and he'll be up against different horses, so it will be much more exciting, not for me but for other people."
Talking on possible options for Camelot, Cecil went on to say: "It would be very exciting to take on Camelot. He could do the Irish Derby, the Juddmonte and the St Leger. He's (Camelot) having the Irish Derby and a longer break before the Juddmonte and he can still do the Leger, so what's the problem? Hopefully Frankel (1/4 To Beat Camelot In Juddmonte Match Bet)will go for the Juddmonte and I would love it if the other horse (Camelot) did go as well. That would be exciting." Aiden O'Brien has been quiet on plans for Camelot but it is widely thought the intention is first to run in the Irish Derby and then to go further and target the St. Leger (Camelot 1/3 To Win The St. Leger), hoping Camelot can be the first Triple Crown winner since the great Nijinsky.
