Woods Returns To Winning Ways - Is He Back?

Tiger WoodsTiger Woods produced a stunning final round to win The Memorial by two shots and achieve his 73rd career victory, level now with Jack Nicklaus. Paired up with Rickie Fowler on the final day he was determined to show this young up and coming star that he is not yet ready to give up his mantle and whilst Fowler stuttered to a round of 84 (12-over par), Tiger produced a masterclass with his 67, seemingly in control of almost every shot (Tiger Woods 5/2 to win the US Money List). He ended up winning the tournament with birdies in three of his last four holes, whilst Sabbatini and overnight leader Spencer Levin struggled to maintain their good play. The highlight of the round was Woods’ miraculous birdie on the par 3 16th. Facing an impossible lie, buried in deep rough and about 50 feet away from the pin, Woods produced one of the best shots of his career as he landed the ball inch perfect on the green and it trickled down into the hole.

After this superb win, the question on everybody’s lips will be if the Tiger Woods of old is back. It’s a question which crops up everytime Tiger seems to win a tournament and it’s one which is eventually answered by a poor Tiger performance, such as his tie for 40th at the Masters after his win at BayHill. However, there was something about this victory that seemed different from his win at BayHill. That air of class about him seemed to be around again and that shot at 16 was something he could only produce in his prime. The real test will be the US Open in 10 days. If Woods can reproduce this play at the Olympic Club then in all likelihood he will be picking up the trophy come Sunday and then you could make a case for Tiger really being back to dominate world golf once again (Tiger Woods 11/2 to win the US Open).
