Liverpool have remained silent on reports suggesting Kenny Dalglish may be set to leave the club as he flies out to America with his assistant Steve Clarke for talks with the club’s owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner (Roberto Martinez 5/2 to be next Liverpool Manager). Despite winning the Carling Cup and reaching the final of the FA Cup, Liverpool have had one of their poorest seasons in the top flight, recording their lowest total of league victories and lowest points tally since 1954.
Dalglish also managed to lead Liverpool to their lowest goal tally for 20 years and their eighth-placed finish was their worst for 18 years. It seems a solitary Carling Cup victory may not be enough for ‘King Kenny’ to keep his job given all these poor statistics and with Liverpool’s owners wanting the club to challenge for league titles and Champions League football he may well be on the brink of dismissal (Jose Mourinho 10/1 to be next Liverpool Manager).
Who will step up and take this job should Dalglish go is anyone’s guess with it being seen as a poisoned chalice by many. The last manager who nearly guided Liverpool to their first Premier League title and brought a Champions League trophy to Merseyside is also looking for a job and given Liverpool’s demise since he left, his return may not be as unlikely as some would think (Rafa Benitez 11/4 to be next Liverpool Manager).
