After suffering an illness Andriy Shevchenko is fit and ready to captain Ukraine at Euro 2012. The Dynamo Kiev striker has 105 caps and 46 goals for Ukraine, whom he represented at the World Cup in 2006. He has been dubbed the greatest Ukrainian footballer of them all, and is the country's record goal scorer. With a 17-year international career he will be hoping to end on a high when he captains his country on home turf at Euro 2012. (Shevchenko 50/1 in Euro 2012 Betting to be top goal scorer).
During his loan spell at Milan in 2008-09 there was talk Shevchenko was past his best, but he laid those speculations to rest after scoring an equaliser against England in a 2010 World Cup qualifier. However, Ukraine went on to lose the game and did not qualify for the tournament that year. The former AC Milan and Chelsea striker will quit the national side after the tournament, at 35-years-old, with chronic back pain threatening to ruin his final farewell at Euro 2012. (Ukraine 50/1 in Euro 2012 Betting to win the tournament).
Andriy Yarmolenko may be the best alternative to Shevchenko should his medical issues prevent him from featuring in this summers tournament. The national and domestic team-mates would no doubt make a dangerous duo but the 22-year-old could easily become the new Shevchenko. He scored on his full international debut against Andorra in 2009, but in order to gain tournament experience took part in the European Under-21 Championships. Yarmolenko has been described as Ukrainian football's hottest prospect and will, as a result, be under pressure to perform this summer. (Ukraine 23/10 in Euro 2012 Betting to finish third in Group D).
Since his 2000 debut Anatoliy Tymoshchuk has been a key feature in the Ukrainian national side. He gained huge respect and recognition for his performance during the 2006 World Cup in which Ukraine reached the quarter-finals. As Shevchenko's second-hand man he captains the squad in his absence, and became the second player to have 100 caps for the senior team in 2010.
