Del Potro Extends Streak On Clay

Social Sharing:

Argentinean world No.11 Juan Martin Del Potro beat Alexandr Dolgopolov to advance into the semi-finals of the ATP Masters Series event in Madrid and extend his undefeated streak on clay in 2012 to ten games. Del Potro overcame the Ukrainian in straight sets 6-3 6-4 and has now won 22 unanswered sets on this surface since the beginning of the year (Juan Martin Del Potro 10/3 to win ATP Madrid Open).  He won last week in Estoril, as well as two Davis Cup matches on this surface and is now set to face Tomas Berdych or Nadal’s conqueror Fernando Verdasco in the last four.

Del Potro looks to be coming into perfect form as the French Open approaches (Juan Martin Del Potro 12/1 to win French Open) and is on the better side of the draw this week following Nadal’s exit and could well fancy his chances for a place in the final. Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer are the likely opponents should he get there but on current form he will fear neither of them should he get past his semi-final draw.
