Murray Defeated In Monte Carlo

Social Sharing:

Andy Murray has been knocked out in the quarter-final stage at the Monte Carlo Masters after a physically gruelling three-set match against the Czech No.1 Tomas Berdych. Murray had a losing 3-2 record against Berdych coming into this match and had lost their only previous clay court encounter in straight sets at the French Open in 2010; however he was the clear favourite at the start with a game that seemed perfectly suited to deal with the big-serving Czech on a clay court. This was not to be the case, as despite battling to win the first set 7-6, he went on to lose the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 and lose the match (Andrew Murray 10/1 to win the French Open).

Berdych claimed, “It was another tough but really good match. It’s tough to say what was key. I’m trying to play my game, trying to play aggressive. That’s key for my game and if it’s working I have the game to beat anybody, even Andy. The win over Andy gives me a lot of confidence for the next match”. Berdych has enjoyed a good year and the world No.7 has won 22 of his 27 matches so far, including all five of his matches on a clay court. If he can play with the precision he did today he will be tough for anyone to beat, even the likes of Djokovic and Nadal (Tomas Berdych 50/1 to win the French Open).

He will face the winner of Novak Djokovic and Robin Haase, with his likely opponent being the world No.1. This will be a different prospect altogether, however he can be confident after his performance against the Brit. Rafael Nadal, Stanislas Wawrinka, Gilles Simon and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga make up the other half of the draw with the Spaniard being the probable opponent in the final.
