Two managers take charge of their first Premier League games with their new clubs as Steve Clarke’s West Brom play host to Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool. There has never been a Premier League draw in 12 previous contests between the clubs, and in 11 of those the victors kept a clean sheet.
West Brom's heaviest home Premier League defeat came courtesy of Liverpool, when they lost 6-0 in April 2003. The Baggies (7/2 to win the match) have taken just two points from six previous opening Premier League fixtures - losing their last three and West Brom started last season with four defeats in their opening five league matches.
West Brom (13/8 to score first) were winless in the final three league matches of the 2011-12 season. Their last league victory was a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield. Only the three relegated clubs lost more times at home than West Brom (10) during the 2011-12 campaign.
Liverpool (5/6 to win the match) have lost only once in 11 league trips to the Hawthorns, dating back 31 years. And with fixtures against Man City, Arsenal and Man United in the next month they cannot afford to get off to a bad start. The Reds are winless in their last three season-opening Premier League matches and they lost 11 of their final 19 league games in the 2011-12 campaign. In addition they failed to find the back of the net in 9 of their 14 Premier League defeats last season.
West Brom have doubts over Jonas Olsson and James Morrison after both picked up knocks while on international duty. Shane Long is fit but new recruit Markus Rosenberg lacks match fitness and Graham Dorrans is unavailable.
Liverpool's Fabio Borini is set to make his Premier League debut for the club after impressing in pre-season. Fellow summer signing Joe Allen is also expected to feature, despite only signing last week, while Joe Cole has overcome a recent hamstring injury.
