Frimpong Out for the Season

Emmanuel FrimpongRelegation battling Wolves have been handed further misery with the news that on-loan midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong will miss the remainder of the Premier League campaign after he damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers. Frimpong, who is on loan from Arsenal, is likely to return to the Emirates where he will undergo months of treatment and hopefully be back in action next term.

Wolves (4/5 to be relegated) are sitting in a perilous position, 17th in the Premier League and just one point above the drop zone. Their win over QPR was their first since early December but the Midlanders will have to continue the relegation dog fight without the services of the boisterous young midfielder who had quickly become a first team regular since his arrival from the Gunners.

Frimpong, who has started the last five Premier League games, limped off in the first half of Saturday's win and scans on the injury have confirmed Mick McCarthy's worst fears. It's also bad news for Arsene Wenger who was hoping that his youngster could gain valuable Premier League experience while on loan after featuring in 14 of Arsenal's games before his January move.

There could also be concerns over Frimpong's long term fitness as this is the second time he has done severe damage to ligaments in his left knee, suffering a similar injury back in 2010.
