Redknapp relief at "great defeat"

Roman Pavlyuchenko

Harry Redknapp admitted his relief after Tottenham (11/4 Premier League 2010-11 Top 4 Finish) only lost 3-2 at Young Boys in Tuesday evening's Champions League qualifier in Switzerland.

Spurs were second best right from the start in Berne and were 3-0 down in half an hour, with real fears that they would miss out on reaching the lucrative group stages.

But Redknapp's men fought back thanks to a header from Sebastian Bassong close to half-time, before Roman Pavlyuchenko fired in a late angled drive to reduce the deficit further.

The Spurs boss said: "It was a great defeat - if there's such a thing. At 3-0 down, we were staring down the barrel. We were in desperate trouble. We were all over the show."

But Tottenham (50/1 to win 2010-11 Champions League) know that a 1-0 home win in the second leg will be good enough to see them win the tie, which could have been in over in the first match.

On the return match, Redknapp added: "Our plan is to get after them at White Hart Lane. It'll be a fantastic crowd, great atmosphere and we're at home."

Before that second leg, Tottenham have a tough looking Premier League clash against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday (Stoke 5/2, Spurs 11/10, Draw 23/10 - Match Betting).
