England Resistance Fails On Day Four
A Test series to forget came to a predictable end for England's cricketers on Monday morning as the little resistance they offered crumbled in the face of another brilliant bowling display from Pakistan. Saeed Ajmal once again was bewildering with his beautiful variation and unreadable doosra and he did for England's top order while Umar Gul took the second new ball and was too good for England's tail.

Andrew Strauss went early trapped plum lbw on his back leg off Ajmal. The skipper reviewed the decision but everyone in the ground could see that the umpire had made the correct call. Jon Trott looked his usual resilient self until inexplicably going for a slog on the on side but top edging Ajmal's doosra to Rehman at deep square leg. Kevin Pietersen played some nice shots before leaving the gate wide open and allowing an orthodox delivery from Ajmal to clip his off stump. It was careless from Pietersen who looked in good nick.
Alistair Cook was determined to stay at the crease but a brilliant catch at slip from Younus Khan sent him packing before Ian Bell played the worst shot of the day looping a mediocre delivery from Umar Gul to Shafiq at cover point. Morgan quickly followed Bell back to the pavilion before Matt Prior offered some resistance batting on as he watched the tail fall around him. Prior finished on 49 but he ran out of partners as the Pakistan bowlers skittled the tail cheaply.
The final result was a Pakistan victory by 71 runs. It's only the second time in 100 years that a team has been bowled out for less than 100 in the opening innings and gone one to win the match. After the series whitewash England must collect themselves and focus on the upcoming ODI and T20 series but after their dismal showing in the longer format is there any hope for them?
