Saturdays International Rugby Specials

A wonderful weekend of football both on and off the field with one of the season's highlights the draw for the 3rd round of the FA Cup taking place on Sunday afternoon just before 4 o'clock. Blues are unbeaten in the last four and take their new-found resilience to Molineux in one of three local Derbies taking place in the Premier League on Sunday.

Blues lost in the FA Cup but took four points from Mick McCarthy's side in the Championship last term and are 2/1 with stanjames.com to return home with the points on Sunday afternoon. Wolves are now Evens to be relegated from the Premier League but only 11/8 to beat their neighbours tomorrow. By the way can anyone tell me why Blues, with Alex McLeish having all this money burning a hole in his pocket, are 2/1 to be relegated yet cash strapped and injury ravaged Everton 14/1?

Wolves are without a win in eight and with games in December against Manchester Clubs, Liverpool and Spurs this is a vital game for the hosts. Goals are likely to be at a premium and a safe bet should be the 8/13 on offer for under 2.5 goals in the game although I actually fancy a draw with 0-0 at 8/1 and 1-1 at 11/2 the recommendations.

The Villa Park faithful are likely to get their first look at Stewart Downing in a Villa shirt this evening in what looks like being a cracking game against a Spurs side who are unlikely to be lacking in confidence having scored nine against hapless Wigan last weekend. Spurs are unlikely to find Richard Dunne and co so charitable this evening and I remain unconvinced by this Spurs side. They were flattered to beat Sunderland 2-0 in their previous game, capitulated at the Emirates before that and at 11/8 Villa represents a decent bet. Spurs are priced at 15/8 and the draw is 12/5 at stanjames.com.

For those who think Stewart Downing can make a dream debut we are offering 69/1 (stop it) that the England international scores the only goal of the game. In the market without the supposed Big Four stuttering Man City are 5/6 favourites from Spurs at 7/4 and Villa at 9/2.

Jermain Defoe is 11/4 jt favourite with Fernando Torres in our market to be top Premier League goalscorer this campaign. With Didier Drogba off to the African Cup Of Nations in January and the possibility of surgery being required for Fernando Torres there could be decent value elsewhere. Gabby Agbonlahor 50/1?

Premier League top goalscorer 2009/10 EW ¼ 1, 2, 3;

  • Fernando Torres 11/4 (10)
  • Jermain Defoe 11/4 (11)
  • Didier Drogba 10/3 (9)
  • Darren Bent 9/2 (9)
  • Wayne Rooney 7/1 (6)
  • Emmanuel Adebayor 12/1 (5)
  • Gabriel Agbonlahor 50/1 (6)

The Baggies have won their last three and are 21/20 to maintain that sequence at Hillsborough against a Wednesday side without a win in five. Chris Brunt returns to Sheffield and is 9/1 to score first and 11/4 to net at any time. Newcastle (15/8 to win the Championship) have quickly learnt how to win ugly and Albion (2/1 for the Title) won't stick four past the opposition every week. That said they ought to have too much for the Owls who have had little to hoot about in recent weeks.
