McLeish plays down Europe talk
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has played down talk of a push for a Europa League place this season by revealing his main target is to stave off relegation (10/3 Premier League Relegation).
The Blues have progressed up the table in recent weeks following a run of five Premier League games without defeat and could move into the top 10 with a win against Wigan at the DW Stadium (Birmingham 5/2, Wigan EVS, draw 9/4, English Football Live Coupon) on Saturday.
McLeish is set to be handed a significant transfer kitty from new owner Carson Yeung in the January window which has resulted in ambitious talk of a top-seven finish, but the Scot is refusing to get carried away.
"I would hope we can still be in the Premier League and maybe competing in the middle part of the league," said McLeish.
"If we are talking about us getting into Europe, then I would not want to be looking too far ahead.
"First things first, and that means staying in the league this year and not looking to two years' time."

Birmingham have every chance to grab a european place. Only five points of the pace and a few games coming where they will definitely be looking to get all 3 points then they face Chelsea at home on Boxing Day. A good run and confidence will be high against a Chelsea side depleted due to the African Nations Cup
roving eye.... the bluenose
McLeish should put himself on a leash! Even 'talking it down' is still an insiuation that the Blues are going into Europe next year... err no.
