Redknapp reveals Pavlyuchenko hopes

Harry Redknapp

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed that he would like to keep Roman Pavlyuchenko at White Hart Lane as his side aim for a top-four finish (7/4 Premier League Outright W/O Big 4) this season.

Redknapp is well aware that the Russian striker has expressed a desire to leave the north Londoners due to his lack of action, but he would like him to stay to ensure his squad continues to have quality strength in depth.

Pavlyuchenko's problem is the excellent form of Jermain Defoe, who is the Premier League's current top scorer on 11 (11/4 Premier League 2009/10 Top Goalscorer) after his five-goal blitz in the 9-1 thrashing of Wigan on Sunday, while Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch are also ahead of him in the pecking order.

However Redknapp feels opportunities will arise for the player to prove his worth to the squad in the coming months.

He said: "We've got a strong squad - and we've got Luka Modric to come back. There's more than enough strength in depth.

"I don't want to sell Roman Pavlyuchenko. Technically he's a fantastic talent but he keeps saying he wants to go.

"He's got great ability but he wants to play regularly but it's been difficult with Defoe, Crouch and Keane all doing well. It's unlucky for him."
