Cahill convinced by Everton's mental strength

Tim Cahill

Tim Cahill will not entertain the prospect of relegation and has demanded his Everton team-mates stand up to the challenge of a long and difficult survival campaign (Everton 10/1 Premier League relegation prices).

A 2-0 home defeat inflicted by neighbours Liverpool on Sunday leaves the Toffees languishing just three points above the relegation places after just one win in their last eight Premier League matches.

The Merseysiders have have won only once in 11 matches taking into account their Europa League (Everton Europa League 22/1 outright prices) campaign and a lack of goals - they have scored just nine goals in that run - has been blamed for their alarming drop down the table.

However, Australia international will not tolerate talk of relegation and says there is enough belief among the players to climb away from the trapdoor.

The combative forward insists the squad must pull together and hope the good times are just around the corner.

"It's just one of those things and nothing's going to fix it except our mental attitude as individuals and a team," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"It's the overall attitude and mental toughness that counts."

Yes - Derby matches throw up some odd results, but quite how Everton expected anything other than a drubbing at the hands of the Reds fresh from being 3-0 down to Hull at 1/2 time, before a tough 2nd half to save some face at 3-2 is beyond me. That said, would be surprising if we didnt have them in the Prem next season...
