Messi a worry ahead of 'El Clasico'

Barcelona (4/5 on Stan James) are hoping star man Lionel Messi will be fit for the huge Spanish showdown against Real Madrid (10/3, the draw 11/4) on Sunday evening.
'El Clasico' is the main event in La Liga and this term the expectation level has been cranked up following Real's summer spending spree which saw them land Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso, Karim Benzema and Kaka.
However, it is the fitness of Argentinian superstar Messi that concerns Barca with boss Pep Guardiola admitting he is unsure if he will make it.
"I'm optimistic - if there's any chance, he'll be there," the coach said.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also a doubt for the Nou Camp clash as Barca look to extend their lead over their traditional rivals to four points.
Ahead of the game, full-back Eric Abidal has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club until summer 2012.
The 30-year-old, who could miss the game as he recovers from swine flu, has been in fine form and Barca were keen to secure his future.
A club statement read: "Eric Abidal will remain with FC Barcelona until 30th June 2012, at least.
"On Wednesday, he extended and improved his current deal which lasted until 2011."
